Michigan brew

Got this little beauty here: Roja from Jolly Pumpkin Artisan Ales, Dexter Michigan. It is a red ale that is barrel aged and unfiltered. It was made in Flanders tradition. It was really sour fruity and hearty. I would recommend this, but paired with a meal that complemented the flavor ranter than just a ball game sipper. The 25 oz bottle carries a hefty price and alcohol content to boot at 7.2%.

Taras Boulba

Last night I tried this beer from the Flanders region of Belgium. It was typical of Belgian beers in that it was unfiltered. As promised, it was very hoppy. I would drink this more often if it didn't cost me $5 a bottle. Most of the beers I have tasted from French-Belgian side and was pleasantly surprised by this bottle. 7.5 out 10

Motorcycle accidents

I want to say something about all the motorcycle accidents since the beginning of the year in Hawaii. I got my license after years of contemplating the idea, safety was always a concern. It is sad that so many people are dying. Some of the accident are the riders fault.
But more importantly, many accidents are caused by negligent car drivers. In the short time since getting my cycle, I have been cut off by numerous vehicles with the drivers on the cell phone. One guy even gave me the "what?" shoulder shrug. Even though I drive a car too, I want the ban on texting and cell phone use while driving. If you hit a motorcyclist or a pedestrian, they have very little to protect them. Even with a helmet, being plowed into with a two tons of metal is not good.
In this economy, I can not imagine that your insurance premiums rising from the accident would be good either.
Please put down all the distractions, turn down the radio just enough to hear your surroundings too.

Sweet...sweet ride.

Red Rice Beer

This import is mighty amazing. This 21 oz Japanese beer is brewed with red rice. It had a crisp beginning and a bite in the aftertaste with a nutty tone. I would definitely recommend at 7% for a beer. Another 8 out 10.

Brick

Sunday we went to Long John Silvers. Two weeks ago I discovered that there is in fact a LJS on the island. I have seen commercials for over a month about how they have these lobster bites. Rabbit likes the hush puppies and was game to try this place. I have not eaten at this chain of restaurants in about 20 years... and it will be another 20 till I do again. After ordering one of their "little bit of everything" platters with fries, piece of fish, lobster bites...you get the picture. Everything tasted the same, from the fish to the fries, how you ask? Must all be done in the same oil. So the entire plate tasted like weak fish.
By the way, it felt like I ingested a brick. For two hours after my stomach was so heavy. UG!

Good but funny looking

This is a Lule kebob. You can only guess what I thought this resembled from the pic. It was so tasty. If you ever have a chance check out Leo's Taverna in town or their little booth in front of Kaheka Don Quixote. They have the best Greek food for your money.

Corsican Beer

Found this beer from Corsica ... Home of Napoleon. It is a Witbeer style. It unfortunately was skunky. I do not think it was the beer's fault. It was poor storage and this store often keeps selling stuff waaaaaaay past its fresh period. Sad.

Big Sunday Ride

Yesterday we started of with a small cruise over Likelike to Windward Mall. We had a little sushi then headed off to Chinaman's hat.

Enjoying the nice ride to the hat, we felt it would be no problem pushing on to Haleiwa. Not such a great idea. We didn't have many delays getting to Laie (love the look of the McDonald's there)

Where we got stuck was just past Waimea Bay on to Haleiwa where people were going crazy over some turtles coming on to the beach. Ever tourist on the island was either rubber necking to the beach below or trying to find a parking space immediately to see them. Sorry no pictures. I just wanted to get past that portion of road. There is nothing like sitting on an air-cooled bike on a sunny day in slow moving traffic. With stops and traffic, I think we did the 70 miles in almost 6 hours. (There were many stops about every ten miles to stretch our legs and refreshments.)

We are thinking of going back to hit the shrimp trucks outside the farms. I have never eaten there amazingly enough.

A New Scottish Beer

Got this beer at a specialty shop in town. Brew Dog's Punk IPA. It comes from Scotland's East coast. It was 6%, very hoppy with a clean taste and finish. 22 oz. for under $10.

A New Chapter

For those who don't know, I have a new toy. I spent the end of March learning how to ride a motorcycle. I picked up this little bad boy on April 1st. I have been trekking around Oahu since.

Today I went to Kaena point from Mokuleia side. Although this bike is capable of going pretty far past the signs and up the trails, I am just in front of a dirt pile. No desecration of native habitat for me. I did see others take off further up the trail.
